Telefónica and Geprom Connecting Industries sign an agreement to boost the digitalization of factories in Spain

Dario Cesena Forcada, CEO and general director of Geprom Connecting Industries, and Maria Luisa de Urquía, director of companies of Telefónica Spain, today signed an agreement that seeks to enhance the cooperation of both companies for the development of relevant initiatives in the connected industry 4.0.

This joint work will make it possible to reach industrial customers with digitalization solutions for their processes, both at production level and at maintenance, logistics, and the rest of the areas where new technologies play a transcendental role at present. The implementation of the products and services of Geprom and Telefónica Business applied to processes, products and industrial assets will aim to: increase productivity, reduce costs, increase visibility and transparency of processes in real time, eliminate paper in factories, and improve the management of quality and traceability in real time; all this applying the new developed technologies.

With the reached agreement, both companies advance in their joint leadership strategy as benchmarks in solutions for the digitalization and modernization of the Spanish industry. At the same time, this pact responds to the growing need to transform the productive environments, integrating new solutions offered by the 4.0 technologies. This is achieved, for example, by defining transversal management skills in the factory, and orchestrating production between people, production tools, robots, sensors, and autonomous industrial vehicles (AGVs), among many others.

Geprom will provide several of the leading and most innovative platforms in the market, present, for example, in the main companies in the automotive, auxiliary, food, chemical and pharmaceutical, logistics and energy sectors. In addition, it will contribute its industrial expertise and ability to develop turnkey projects thanks to their industrial automation equipment.

Telefónica Business will provide, among others, the whole set of new IOT connectivity for the factory (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VPN, LPWA, LTE-P, 5G, etc.) that will act as a catalyst, together with Cloud storage and processing environments. The company will also provide all its new capabilities related to Big Data projects, Analytics or, in general, those advanced industrial security solutions.

“At Geprom we develop turnkey projects applying the newest technologies for the management, control, and monitoring of production in real time through LEGATO SAPIENT, one of the most advanced MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems in the market worldwide. In addition, we currently have a range of products that large customers are integrating globally for quality management and real-time traceability, for the control of automated warehouses and as a virtual reality tool for maintenance and training. All this, together with the rest of our industrial automation services, such as the integration of artificial vision, electrical engineering, transporting systems, and start-ups that generate added value, comfort and safety for our customers”, explains Darío Cesena, CEO of Geprom.

Telefónica Business, as a leader in the digital transformation of companies, is committed to working with Geprom to develop, with its capabilities, IOT, Cloud and Big Data technologies for Industry 4.0, an industry that a recent study by Accenture and the MWC indicated “will impact on the next few years 3.6% in GDP”. Thus, María Luisa de Urquía, director of companies of Telefónica Spain, explains that “this type of technologies are key to the modernization of the industry, which will allow them to maintain their competitiveness and generate new business models, closer to a strategy of service than the current product. At this point, we believe that Telefónica contributes constant innovation to its clients, but also experience and solvent support, as an operator and as a supporter of the visions in their most relevant projects of change”.
